Serving the community in San Francisco for over 150 years, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church was founded during the gold-rush era. Built in 1910, the current magnificent Gothic Revival style building for this church has served as a place of worship, welcome and hospitality for those who visit and make this church their spiritual home. In addition to many examples of priceless stained glass, statues and other artistic expressions and elements aimed at raising the soul, the choral music program is a defining ministry at this parish, which maintains a space that is built to showcase these voices effortlessly. In addition to the nave, the Parish House, built in 1951 is a useful location for many church functions.
However, after many years of putting off upgrades and updates, several projects became imperative. Upgrading electrical and lighting, updating flooring and paint across the buildings and upgrading the kitchen facilities were essential to continue to use the Parish House effectively. Additionally, the parish is committed to creating accessible spaces and bathrooms for members who have limited mobility and other needs, as well as creating a fund to maintain the original organ, which is a central part of worship at this parish. With these projects as the central focus for this congregation, engagement with the Steier Group for expert and customized fundraising to address the buildings’ needs began with a planning study, identifying the capabilities for the Restore, Renew, Rejoice: Our Hope for Years to Come Capital Campaign. With a hands-on management model, combined with the grant writing and professional graphic design services provided from the Steier Group, St. Luke’s exceeded goal and is able to address the varied needs of the community’s projects.
